Mark Barnaba

Mark Barnaba AM CitWA is a successful investment banker and corporate advisor turned professional director.

Mr Barnaba is a board member of the Reserve Bank of Australia, a non-executive director (and lead independent director) of Fortescue Metals Group, chair of The University of Western Australia’s Business School Board, Adjunct Professor in Investment Banking & Finance at the UWA Business School, chair of technology company GLX Digital and Minderoo Foundation’s Sea of the Future initiative, and a member of the senior advisory board of London-based private equity group Appian Capital. Prior to his RBA role, he was chair of Macquarie Group Western Australia and chair & global head of resources group at Macquarie Capital. Mr Barnaba is also the past chair of Black Swan State Theatre Company, and has been a member of the advisory council for The Hugh Jackman Deborah-lee Furness Foundation for the Performing Arts.

He is co-founder (and previously co-executive chair) of Azure Capital and had been the chair of Western Power, Edge Employment Solutions, West Coast Eagles Football Club and Alinta Infrastructure Holdings. He was also appointed by the Premier to chair the WA Steering Committee of the Commonwealth Business Forum for CHOGM in 2011.

In 2009, Mr Barnaba was the recipient of the WA Citizen of the Year Award in Industry and Commerce. In 2012, he received an Honorary Doctor of Commerce from The University of Western Australia and was granted the Honorary designation FCPA from CPA Australia.

In 2015, he was named a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to the investment banking and financial sectors, to business education, and to sporting and cultural organisations.

Mr Barnaba was named First Amongst Equals in the 2002 Business News 40under40 awards. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
