Infinity Mining has uncovered rare earths at its Victor Bore project in Western Australia’s Central Goldfields, with two samples from a recent reverse-circulation (RC) campaign returning results of more than 1000 parts per million total rare earths oxide (TREO).
Of the 24 samples submitted from the company’s drill campaign at the operation, one returned a 1m hit at 1018ppm TREO from 20m, while a second recorded another 1m intercept at a solid 1582ppm TREO from 53m.
Infinity says the assays returned rare earths concentrations of up to 266.7ppm cerium, 44.61ppm dysprosium, 373.6ppm lanthanum, 389.13ppm neodymium, 98.43ppm praseodymium and 157.86ppm yttrium. Adding weight to the find, Victory Bore sits within shouting distance of several significant rare earths operations, including Lynas Rare Earths’ Mt Weld mine, Asra Minerals’ Mt Stirling project and Mt Malcolm Mines’ namesake Malcolm project.
The company recently completed a 37-hole RC campaign at five of its wholly-owned sites in the area including its Victor Bore, Great Northern, Barlow’s Gully, Camel and Coppermine projects.
Management looks to be working from a blank canvas as there are no available drill records for Victor Bore and there has been no modern exploration prior to the company conducting magnetic imagery and rock-chip sampling last year. Its magnetic imagery identified possible structures parallel to the known north/north-east trending historic gold workings.
Infinity Mining chief executive officer Joe Groot said: “Given Victor Bore’s proximity to other world-class REE projects in the region, we are very keen to follow this up with additional assaying to better understand the potential extent of REE and gold at the project. We will continue to provide updates to shareholders as developments materialise.”
A total of 16 holes were drilled at Victor Bore for 1727m where shallow historical workings are located along the zones tested, with 13 holes producing assay results of more than 1 gram per tonne gold. Assay highlights show an 8m hit at 3.46g/t gold from 56m, including 1m going a solid 21.86g/t gold from 57m.
Assays from the company’s first five RC drillholes at Victor Bore returned results including 7m at 1.96g/t gold from 32m and 6m going 1.4g/t gold from 25m, with the best individual 1m intersections reading a respective 8.67g/t gold from 34m and 7.33g/t from 29m.
Victor Bore is part of Infinity’s 13.8-square-kilometre Central Goldfields portfolio centred around the town of Leonora. Local gold deposits include the multi-million-ounce Sons of Gwalia, King of the Hills, Tarmoola and Thunderbox. The company’s ground includes two mining leases, seven prospecting licences and one exploration licence.
The addition of anomalous rare earths to some already impressive gold numbers shows Infinity has a lot to be excited about at its Central Goldfields projects.
